Cancer can have genetic causes. Genetic diagnostics allow early and specific identification of such cancer risks. At cell level mutations and other genetic abnormalities known to be associated with cancer are detected with suitable analysis methods. This genetic diagnosis is of great importance particularly for relatives of patients with certain types of cancer. Genetic diagnostics therefore allow early and specific preventative measures to be taken and make treatment optimisation possible through a precise classification of the cancer in question.
Prof. Dr Krainer is the director of the “Centre of Competence for Genetic Analysis” laboratory approved by the Ministry of Social Security and Generations. Here genetic diagnosis is carried out to determine a predisposition to or carrier status for hereditary breast cancer and colon cancer and supplemented with detailed consultations:
Information about patients in whom a genetic analysis for breast and ovarian cancer should be carried out can be found in the following brochure:

Univ. Prof. Dr Michael Krainer is a specialist in internal medicine and has been working successfully as an oncologist since 1995. During this time, in addition to his current work at Vienna General Hospital (University Clinic for Internal Medicine I, Department of Oncology) he has also worked at the Harvard Medical School in the USA. He is acknowledged in specialist circles though his competence in supplementing effective drug treatment of cancer with molecular diagnostics. | Mobile: | +43 664 12 11 407 |
